Rt. Rev. Kurien Valiakandathil

Born on November 18, 1952, Bishop Kurien is the 3rd son of Mr. Paul V. A. and Mrs. Eliyamma of Elanjhi Parish in the Diocese of Pala, Kerala. After completing Higher Secondary in Kerala, he joined St. John’s Seminary, Bhagalpur in the year 1968. He completed Philosophy in St. Albert’s College, Ranchi and Theology in Papal Seminary, Pune. He was ordained priest by late Bishop Urban McGarry TOR on October 28, 1977. He completed graduation from Goshner College, Ranchi and Post Graduation from Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University.

He has worked in various capacities as parish Priest, Head Master, Spiritual Director and Professor of Regional Seminary. He as also served the Diocese as Diocesan Consultor ad Secretary of Priest’s Senate. At the time of his appointment as Bishop Elect of Bhagalpur, he was the rector of St. John’s Regional Seminary, Bhagalpur.

He has worked very closely with Bp. Urban, Bp. George and Bp. Thomas. He is known for his simplicity and love for people. Anyone who comes in contact withy him finds him a good listener and a very close friend. His love for Christ is shown in his deep love for the Eucharistic Lord and prayerfulness. He is deeply charismatic and an ardent lover of Our Lady.
