At the invitation of Mgr. McGarry, the Prefect Apostolic, the Apostolic Carmel Sisters opened a convent and the first English Medium School in the district of Bhagalpur on 23rd June 1958 with 11 students. The first group of Sisters was led by Sr. Adela. Others were Frederica and Fabiana. The TOR’s generously offered the AC’s the new acquired property of “Cauty’s Compound” for their use. The school was housed there for six years till 1964 when the AC’s moved to their own spacious compound at Barari Ghat road.

The pioneer group arrived at Bhagalpur on 29th January 1983 and stayed with the M.C. Sisters for a few days before they occupied the new convent at Kabirpur. The first group consisted of Srs. Alice, Loreta, Joyce, Sagai Mary and Maurina. The Dumria convent opened on 16th June 1983. The first group of Sisters consisted of Srs. Franca, Loreta, Rajendra Rani and Philo. The Adampur Hostel Management was taken over by Srs. Emelda from January 17, 1987

Started at Damruhat on 16th July 1987. The pioneer group consisted of Srs. Winni, Christine, Balbeena and Rosy. The BS Sisters are also in Susni from 16th July 2005. Srs. Clarissa (superior), Martha and Sajita.

The CSST Sisters first came to Giridih at the invitation of Archbishop Nicholas Kujur S.J. of Ranchi on 16th July 1954. The pioneers were Srs. Valentine, Hilda, Xaviera and Evangelist. The Carmel School, the first English Medium School in the district was started on 15th August 1954. St. Philomena’s Convent at Chakai was started on 20th January 1957, the pioneer superior being Sr. Emerata. Carmel Convent Bhalua was started on 28th November 1988. The CSST celebrated their Golden Jubilee at Giridih on 16-07-2004. They have a new Province now at Giridih.

The CMC Sisters opened their first convent at Godda on November 22, 1973. Sr. Sarto led the first batch. The Baromasia convent was started on 14th August 1974. Sr. Anacleta was the first superior. They have third convent at Phulbaria started in 1973. Sr. Boni is an old hand there. They have a  Krist Raja Hospital, the best private hospital in Godda.

The first group of Twelve CTC Sisters arrived at Bhagalpur on 1st May 1959. Mother Georgia was the pioneer, who later became the Superior General of the Congregation. The Gokhla group consisted of Srs. Gracia, Rufeen, Javita, Salome and Michael. The Harimohra group consisted of Srs. Stanislaus, Roseline, Borgia, Audry, Alberta and Genevieve. In 1966 they started the High School at Harimohra which was recognized by the Govt. in 1973. Gokhla sent their first batch for Matric in 1985. On August 16, 1962 the novitiate was canonically erected at Gokhla. The first local candidate to join the novitiate was Teresa Hembrom (now: Sr. Celerina) of Harimohra. St. Patrick’s Convent, Basmata was blessed in February 1973. The first community consisted of Srs. Archangel, Francini and Silvia. Pushpa Niwas, Baccha was blessed on March 15, 1973. The pioneers were Srs. Josetta, Daphne and Daisy. Seva Kendra, Dakaita was opened on 8th September 1974. The first group consisted of Sr. Borgia, Salome, Philia and Silvia. Christ Seva Ashram, Nazari, Kharagpur was inaugurated on 1st August 1975 but was closed down in 1996. Avila Bhavan was blessed in 1982. The Province was established on 17-09-1988. They have eleven convents in four dioceses of Bhagalpur, Dumka, Calcutta, Asansol and Krishnagar. There are 119 professed Sisters, 18 Novices, and 41 Candidates. Very Rev. Sr. Daphnie, Provincial of Bhagalpur (1993-99) is now the Mother General of the CTC in India.

The Clarists opened their first house, Alphonsa Nivas at Deoghar on 22nd June, 1970. The pioneers were Srs. Joselet, Lizy Puthenkalam, Louis Jose and Anslem. St. Thomas Bhavan, Bhagalpur opened on 4th June 1972. The first group consisted on Srs. Leena Carmel and Julie.  Jyoti Bhavan, Chirkee was blessed on August 8, 1976. The pioneers were Srs. Elize, Claris Maria, and Lizy Maria. Maria Sadan, Sundermur was blessed on August 15, 1978. The first group of Sisters consisted of Srs. Lizy Puthenkalam, Reena, and Lilly.  Assisi Bhavan, Jasidih was blessed on 30th December 1984. The pioneers were Srs. Crizy, Job and Marina. St. Francis Hospital started on September 14, 2003 (Sr. Francis, Administrator). A 7th convent of the FCC will soon open at Ranitalab. Sr. Mercy will be the Superior.

The Holy Family Sisters opened their first convent at Charkapathar on 11th February 1964. the pioneers wre Srs. Mary John, Amos, Jessy Guy (Rita), Samuel, Jeremiah, Petrina and Leopold. The Poreyahat convent was blessed on 06-08-1965. The first group consisted Mary John, Amos, Samuel and Gabina (Rose). The new residence and hospital was blessed on 20-10-1972. Mariampahari convent opened on 15-08-1965. The first group consisted of Srs. Eudocia, Maurice, Seena, Consolata and Berlina. The Jhajha convent opened on        09-01-1972. Sr. Aurea (Mary) was the Superior and other Sisters were Placid and James. Tilkamnajhi started on 21-06-1978 and Champanagar on 14-03-1990. Holy Family, Banka started on 19-03-1999. Holy Family School, Poreyahat was started on 08-06-2000. Holy Family Convent, Banka started on 26-02-2002. Holy Family School, Bensiticker started on 17-03-2002. CHF Arunoday Province was declared on May 22, 1997. Professed Sisters 220; Novices 15. CHF work in 10 dioceses viz. Bhagalpur, Ranchi, Jalandhur, Khunti, Shimla, Thrissur, Hazaribag, New Delhi, Kolkata and Krishnagar.

The Holy Cross Sisters first arrived at Maheshmunda on 1st June 1953. Sr. Clementia and two candidates Licy and Anne Joseph were the pioneers. They started a school with six boys and 2 girls. The Belatanr convent was started on 23rd November 1973. Srs. Mary Rose, Tara and Archana were in the first group. Dulabitha started in 1982 and Sr. Cecilia was the first Superior. Tilkimoron started in 1985 and Sr. Edith was the first Superior. With Srs. Magdalene and Clara, Holy Cross Chandna was started on 15-02-1990. The Holy Cross restarted their convent in Giridih in June 1994 with Sr. Elizabeth as superior. Holy Cross Sisters Maheshmunda celebrated their Golden Jubilee in 2003.
